Frybrid now offers the ever controvercial wrap around oil filter heaters! Running at 125watts they draw 12amps as opposed to those offered by other companies which are only 72 or 82 watts ours are almost twice as powerful!

Electrical terms are over my head. What amp alternator would be required to drive this one? (Would the little bitty Samurai alternator work, or to use this will I need to upgrade?)
What are the benefits of this over coolant-heated systems?

Drawing only 12 amps should not really be a problem with most vehicles.
For comparison a single glow plug can draw 15 amps.

ive seen the greasel set up, these band ehaters do not impress me and it has already been done despite its poor heat transfer. in fact i hate these football wraps, wheres the boot lace and now tie?

Zook - the sami alt is about the size of a soup can and has little amps available, you can however replacee it with the VW alternator giving 90 amps (AL 115 X).

Good to be in touch with your feelings, hate is so close to love, this depth of emotion is a wonderful thing to have but I think it is a little misguided here.
Although I do not favor his method of heating, given enough amps the heat transfer should be as good as wrapping the filter in 3/8 copper filled with coolant. I am simply offering it for those whom already have an unheated large Racor unit they have invested in. As for the lace up design, why have laces to get soaked in VO?. You do not have to buy one.

I think the Zuk alt is, like, 45 amp. Most Zukers I know are using 90 - 100+ amp GM alternators - easy and cheap to find replacements.

One thing i can add here, don't know if it is totally relevant, is that i bought a greasel wrap around, put it on a racor 1000fh, and then wrapped heater hose around that. Very hot, perhaps too hot for the kind goodwin is selling now. But works good with the lower amp ones.

Seems like this thread at least has our dear administrator checking his anger somewhat... glad to see you passed up a chance to knock the Greasel systems!
Though why are you so angry?

Hay Biggie,
What kind of car do you drive and have you converted to VO yet? How do you collect and filter your oil?
