I just returned from a trip from Montana City, Montana to Seattle, Washington and back. With side trips I put on just over 1500 miles. During the trip I ran approximately 175 miles on diesel and had two back flushes and several purges using close to 12 gallons of diesel. I burned just less than 70 gallons of filtered WVO. Using these figures, I got about 125 MPG out of the diesel and around 19 MPG on WVO. Just over $30 in fuel for just over 1500 miles comes to about $.02 per mile for fuel. Add $16 for filters and it is still only $.03 per mile, not too shabby for a ¾ ton truck. My major trouble was with hoses springing leaks. These are standard black rubber 3/8” fuel line hose, it seems that the heated VO deteriorated them, between the heat and pressure they gave way. Secondly, I was in a hurry to get going so I did a quick and poor job of pre-filtering which cost me three onboard filters.
During my stop in Seatle I had a nice visit with Chris and Dan at Frybrid. Chris sure has his plate full right now. I bet he makes it through this startup phase and does real well. Saw some very good stuff there while he was working on the conversion he posted with the pictures. Keep up the good work.
